Last December, you may have heard that the Government responded to the Code Consultation. We kept you up to date last year about this and the reasons behind it. As a reminder, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport wanted to hear views on whether changes to the Code can help ensure that the UK has sufficiently robust electronic communications networks to deliver the coverage and connectivity we need. Therefore, in January 2021, they opened a consultation to the public. Cornerstone (through Speed Up Britain) responded to this with their views, requesting specific changes. The Consultation closed in March, and we have received the response from the Government. You can find out more about this on page 5.
Our Head of Operations, Andrew Alexander, has been appointed as Chair for The Mast & Tower Safety Group (MATS). MATS is an industry forum that continuously makes positive changes to health and safety within the telecoms and broadcast industry. The MATS Group brings together organisations that own or manage masts and towers, which involves working at height and occupational radio frequency (RF) hazards. The group collaboratively agrees on health and safety standards and solutions for the industry. As you know, health and safety is crucial for carrying out any works on sites. At Cornerstone, we take it very seriously and constantly create a safe environment for our landlords, the public, contractors, and customers. We are looking forward to enhancing Cornerstone’s health and safety efforts even further through Andrew’s role in working with stakeholders on industry best practices.
As part of our 2022 plans, we are looking at new ways to develop our Environmental, Social, and Governance strategy. We are committed to making a difference within this area. As our landlords, we want you to feel comfortable that we always carry out work in a safe, environmentally friendly, and acceptable manner. We will share our ESG practices and ambitions as we work through them, so watch out for updates on our LinkedIn page and future Connected issues.
